IRIS is committed to building micro, small and medium enterprises. The company has set up structures, with partners, experts, data bases and resources, that enable provision of solutions to business challenges. Our services are rendered through and for our four core programmes, as follows:
1. Market Linkages
We work to ensure that buyers and sellers meet. There is a yawning market for almost everything in our region and beyond. Especially focusing on agribusiness so far, we find buyers for sellers. Our informing philosophy is consistency, and so our approach is medium-to-long term, working together with the MSME to assure consistency of quality and of quantity. Once consistency of quantity of agreed quality is assured, we will get your anything to be bought.
2. Investment Linkages
We facilitate linkages between investors and entrepreneurs. Through our partnership with BiD Network and other arrangements, we link growing MSMEs to investment opportunities. This programme stands on the premise that with a good idea and proper preparation, financing will always be available through local and international linkages.
The Ready For Finance (R4F) Training as well as other trainings readies the entrepreneur for such linkages. We target entrepreneurs seeking US$10,000 to US$5Million.
3. Capacity Building
The firm, any firm, needs internal strength to be able to tackle external threats and convert opportunities. It is widely reported that Uganda is the most entrepreneurial country in the world. It is added, however, that most MSMEs do not live beyond three years, leave alone surviving beyond the founder to the next generation. We also find that most MSMEs that think they are ready for the market or for investment actually have not asked the most important internal questions: Internal roles and organs. Cash flow. Budgets and Projections. Vision and long term goals. Governance. Statutory requirements. Market focus and competition. Comparative versus competitive advantage.
4. Internship & Volunteer Programme
We are very selective. We want to offer meaningful opportunity to the potential entrepreneur still at, or leaving school, as well as to the hosting SME an unforgettable opportunity for the intern to learn and the SME to mentor. This programme will grow for the need is immense.
