MOH EMBRACES PAN DENTAL ACADEMY

The ministry of health has welcomed the inauguration of a digital dental training center in Uganda that will significantly help in the field of dentistry.Peter Nyamutale, the deputy registrar of Allied Health Professional's Council, said the facility in Naguru, Kampala comes at a time when there are few dental training centres and so will help dental surgeons acquire unique skills. Pan Dental Surgery chief executive Dr. Tom Mutyabule says the centre will train dentists and dental surgery assistants in the art of operating digital dentistry.It is understood the training centre with digital equipment is one of the biggest in Sub-Sahara Africa.

 

It will provide training for dentists who are already practising in private and public hospitals, interns, among others.“Most dentists who have qualified have not been engaged in training yet there is modern technology. MAKERERE DENTAL SCHOOL GETS NEW EQUIPMENT

Makerere University Dental School has received an Intra Oral Digital X-Ray System which will be used in training of students in modern radiography and dentistry and later on helping in the treatment of patients.

The dean of the College of health sciences, Dr. Isaac Okullo, received the equipment Mulago Dental School.
While at it, he said: "The equipment will help students and staff in carrying out research to generate more knowledge that will help in the treatment.”

 

The equipment worth over 500,000,000 UGX was donated by a South African company, Sirona Dental Systems, in partnership with the Pan Dental Academy. The principal dental surgeon at the ministry of health, Dr. Juliet Nabbanja, says at the moment the dental school produces only 15 dentists per year.
