Alfred Mutyabule Nabeta

Alfred is a diplomat and Senior International Civil Servant. He currently works for the United Nations in New York. He began his UN career in 2000 with the UN Peacekeeping mission in Sierra Leone as it endeavoured to restore peace in the war torn country. He was also part of the team that prepared for the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Sierra Leone. His UN career then took him to Liberia at the height of the liberation struggle against President Charles Taylor. He worked extensively in humanitarian assistance in different parts of Liberia as well as managing reintegration programmes in support of the demobilization process. He subsequently moved to South Sudan before the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed and then on to the UN Headquarters in Geneva and later to New York where he is currently stationed.  

Prior to joining the United Nations, Mr Nabeta was a Senior Civil Servant in Uganda. He worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs both at Headquarters and at the Uganda Embassy in Germany. He also briefly worked with the Commonwealth Secretariat after completing his MSc (Econ) at the London School of Economics in the UK. Before joining the London School of Economics, he was a Senior Immigration Officer and Deputy Passport Control Officer in the Immigration Department in Kampala. Prior to joining the Civil Service, Mr Nabeta taught Political Science at Makerere University, a position he took up immediately after excelling in his undergraduate studies at Makerere University in 1984.

Alfred Mutyabule Nabeta undertook his entire pre-university education in Busoga. His secondary education was at Busoga College Mwiri and his Primary education was split between Mwiri Primary School and Victoria Nile Primary School in Jinja.  His early school days were spent at Mrs Morton's Kindergarten in Jinja.  

Mr Nabeta is married to Celia Kafureka Nabeta and they have 5 Children.  He has deep rooted interest in Busoga's development and is working with Busoga leaders to mobilise support to build schools, help improve our hospitals and many other initiatives. He was born in 1961 to Elijah Kisadha Mutyabule a prominent Lawyer and his wife Margaret Nabiryo. Mr Mutyabule, a member of the Kisadha-Nabeta family comprising 7 brothers has since independence contributed to the service of Busoga and Uganda in various ways. The 7 brothers included D.J.K Nabeta, Henry Kyemba, R.L Kisadha (killed by Amin), N.J Nabeta and others. They have over the years imparted the core values of serving the community in all their children, values which Mr Nabeta is keen to take forward and practice.
